Exclusive: Few Yewas can boast they worked for Abiodun – stakeholders react
… Hopeful they won’t be sidelined by the new administration
Barely a week after the Ogun State gubernatorial election, which sees the All Progressive Congress’ Dapo Abiodun emerged the governor-elect with 241,670 votes, stakeholders from Ogun West Senatorial district have since reacted.
Recall that Abiodun’s closest rival in the poll is Alliance People’s Movement’s Adekunle Akinlade, who hails from Yewa, Ogun West senatorial district. Akinlade polled a total of 222,153 votes, while Gboyega Isiaka of the African Democratic Congress polled 110,422 votes.
In a revelation, exclusively, made available to Wheel NG correspondent, the outcome of the gubernatorial election seems not to go down well with the stakeholders in Ogun West.
Requesting anonymity, one of the stakeholders said the outcome of the governorship election is a big blow to the people of Ogun West senatorial district, and that they might press charges against the ruling party, APC, for electoral malpractice.
“It was an eyesore to all sons and daughters of Yewa. The outcome of the polls isn’t our expectations. For many years, we have been lobbying for the top seat in Ogun State. We thought this was our time to grab the baton.
“It’s quite obvious that the gubernatorial election wasn’t transparent enough. And there is no good feel to that. With the result from Ado-Odo Ota and elsewhere, it is over-cheating. That’s what I can see,” he said.
Another stakeholder, who also pleaded anonymity, accepted fate, wished for better luck next time and a peaceful reign in Ogun State.
With the new administration being ushered in soon, and from the norm, the people of Yewa might be sidelined.
Akogun Taiwo Lucien, Maiyegun of Imeko land and the Zonal Chairman representing Imeko Afon said, “It is so sure that people of Yewa might be sidelined because only few Yewa can boast they worked for Dapo Abiodun.
“What is sowed has been reaped. But we just have to embrace the new administration. We are hopeful that we won’t be sidelined,” he added.
