FG orders Emefiele to leave office
The Federal Government (FG) has ordered Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele to embark on a leave in anticipation of his tenure expiration.
This was contained in a letter on Monday, March 4, 2019, and it is said to take effect immediately.
Contrary to media reports making rounds earlier in the day that the CBN chief has been sacked, the Director of Corporate Communications, CBN, Issac Okorafor, has debunked such information as false.
“The governor is in his office working. I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Okoroafor told The Nation correspondent.
Emefiele joined the apex bank onTuesday, June 3, 2014.
Before then, he was the Chief Executive officer and Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc and previously the Deputy Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc.
Prior to his sojourn into the banking industry, Emefiele taught Finance and Insurance at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, and University of Port Harcourt, respectively.
